BIGSTUF CAMP FAQS

WHEN DOES REGISTRATION OPEN FOR SUMMER 2018?

Registration for Summer 2018 is currently open here. This link is for churches/groups, not individuals, to register. To register your middle or high school student for camp, please contact a youth ministry staff or volunteer at your church.

Is BigStuf for churches/groups only or can individual students register for camp?

The way BigStuf works is that students attend our camps with a church or group. We register churches who then fill their registered spots with students from their church/in their area.  We truly believe that when students come to camp in a group, camp is a far better experience.  Another huge reason for designing camp this way is so that students can grow with other students from their area to strengthen their relationships for when they return back home. We want BigStuf to be a place where students can develop & strengthen relationships in a youth group or church that they can stay involved in for the rest of the year. 

Check with your church to see if they are already registered for BigStuf & have a spot available for your student. If your church is not registered for BigStuf, let them know that you’d love for your student to go to BigStuf! Your church’s student ministry staff/volunteers can give us a call at 770-569-0207 (EXT 1) or email us at registration@bigstuf.com for more information. Our required minimum group size is only 5 people, so it’s pretty easy to get a group together to come to camp!

HOW MUCH IS THE DEPOSIT FOR CAMP & WHEN IS IT DUE?

A $60 deposit per spot is due within 30 days of the initial registration date. The deposits must be paid in order to secure your spots at the price at which you registered. All deposits count towards your total balance & are nonrefundable & nontransferable to another group.

WHAT DOES THIS PRICE INCLUDE?

The price for 5-day camps includes 4 nights of lodging, 7 sessions, session materials & 10 meals.

The price for a 4-day camp includes 3 nights of lodging, 5 sessions, session materials & 8 meals.

WHAT ARE THE AGES FOR BIGSTUF?

BigStuf is for students aged between a graduated 6th grader & a graduated 12th grader. All camps are for both middle & high school students.

IS THE PRICE THE SAME FOR YOUTH LEADERS/ADULT VOLUNTEERS & STUDENTS?

Yes, the price for BigStuf is the same for youth leaders/adult volunteers & students. Youth leaders/adult volunteers DO count towards your total number of registrants.

ARE SMALL CHILDREN OF YOUTH LEADERS/ADULT VOLUNTEERS ALLOWED AT BIGSTUF CAMPS?

Children under age 10 are allowed at camp.  They will have a special rate & are not included in the total number of registrants.  Please contact registration@bigstuf.com to notify BigStuf of any children coming as well as to request meals (if needed) for them.  Their rates are as follows:

5 Day Camps:

  • Bed space only: $160
  • Bed space & meals: $246

4 Day Camp:

  • Bed space only: $113
  • Bed space & meals: $181

HOW MANY ADULT LEADERS IS MY GROUP REQUIRED TO BRING?

We believe you know your students better than we do so please use your discretion as to how many leaders you need to bring. Each group is responsible for its own students. A good rule of thumb is one leader per ten students or enough leaders to have at least one leader in each hotel room.

WHAT WILL OUR ROOMING SITUATION BE?

You are responsible to enter information for each camp attendee (students & leaders) on your Attendee List (found on the Attendees tab on your group BigStuf account here). From this completed Attendee List, we will have your female to male ratio in order to complete your rooming assignment for your group. Your 2018 Camp Attendee List is due as follows:

**There will be a $100 LATE FEE for Attendee Lists completed late. If you have any questions or concerns about your Attendee List, please contact us by emailing registration@bigstuf.com.

We block each group’s rooms based on our discretion. The need of additional rooms for any purpose (i.e. safe sanctuary, extra room for youth pastor & spouse, etc.) is subject to availability, & there will be an additional charge of $178 per night. If you require a safe sanctuary room, please email registration@bigstuf.com with this request immediately.

*Note: Our hotel rooms sleep 5 to 6 to a room (leaders &/or students). Not all rooms adjoin, & we cannot guarantee adjoining rooms.

  • 5 person rooms are laid out as follows: 2 double beds & a sleeper sofa OR 1 king bed, sleeper sofa & roll-away
  • 6 person rooms are laid out as follows: 2 double beds & a set of bunk beds

ARE THERE ANY OTHER LODGING OPTIONS BESIDES THE BIGSTUF HOTEL?

Yes! We offer a Deluxe Lodging Upgrade, the option to upgrade your camp lodging from hotel rooms to spacious condos. These condos are located just down the road from camp at Laketown Wharf. Just a quick walk (approximately .4 miles) from where camp is held at the Boardwalk Beach Resort, Laketown Wharf provides condos that sleep up to seven people per condo. In addition to providing you with more space to house your group during camp, Laketown Wharf also offers a large floor plan, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen (with full-sized refrigerator/freezer and coffee/tea maker), private balcony, and free WiFi.

The Deluxe Lodging Upgrade only changes where you and your students will sleep during camp. Every other part of camp (sessions, rec tournaments, meals, small groups, etc.) will happen at the Boardwalk Beach Resort as usual, but at the end of the day, your group will return to lodge at Laketown Wharf.  For more information and/or to learn about remaining availability at the Laketown Wharf condos, please email registration@bigstuf.com.

CAN MY GROUP STAY IN THE HOTEL THE NIGHT BEFORE OR THE NIGHT AFTER CAMP, & WHAT IS THE RATE IF SO?

Yes, but only if your camp doesn’t run back-to-back with another camp. You are able to stay the night before camp if you are attending the following 2018 camps:

  • Camp 1 | $163 per room
  • Camp 2 | $163 per room
  • Camp 3 | $163 per room
  • Camp 6 | $183 per room (4th of July rate)
  • Camp 9 | $163 per room

You are able to stay the night after camp if you are attending the following 2018 camps:

  • Camp 1 | $163 per room
  • Camp 2 | $163 per room
  • Camp 5 | $183 per room (4th of July rate)
  • Camp 8 | $163 per room
  • Camp 9 | $163 per room

DOES BIGSTUF PROVIDE OPTIONS OF ROOMS FOR BUS DRIVERS?

BigStuf does not reserve rooms for bus drivers; however, we can provide you with a list of nearby hotels that provide charter bus parking for your bus drivers:

WHAT IS THE FIRST YEAR TOUR?

If this is your first year at camp, we want you to feel confident & prepared to lead your students well during camp. Before Leader Lab Session 1 at 6:15 PM CST, we will have a tour of the property that will help you to navigate where you need to be throughout camp.

WHAT IS LEADER LAB SESSION 1?

It is mandatory for at least one leader from each group to attend Leader Lab Session 1. This meeting is a time for us to cast vision for camp, pray over your students & leaders & kick off camp.  It will also provide you with all of the info you will need to know for camp. Even if you have attended camp before, it is extremely important that you are at Leader Lab Session 1 as info is updated every year.

WHAT IS BEACH WORSHIP?

You & your students won’t want to miss Beach Worship! Before one of the evening sessions, we are able to step out of The Big Room & onto the beach to worship without all the lights, cameras & production. Something powerful happens when we all come together & worship the Creator in His creation!

DO YOU HAVE A WAITING LIST FOR CAMPS THAT ARE 100% FULL?

Yes, *your group has the option to be added to a waiting list if the camp you would like to attend is full. No deposit is required to join the waiting list. As spots become available, we will contact you to confirm your taking those spaces. You have 24 hours to verify if you would like to take any open spots & once you do, deposits will be due immediately to secure them. To be added to the waiting list, please go to the home page of your online group BigStuf account and select “Join our Waiting List.”

*If you are a parent/guardian and the camp that you would like your student to attend is listed as “full” on our website, do not fret! Your church may already be registered for that week and have a spot available for your student! Please contact your church student ministry staff/volunteers to find out if they are registered and have available space.

WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS DURING FREE TIME?

On site there is the beach, pool, & games such as triple toss, cornhole, spikeball & kanjam. There are also private vendors on the beach who offer Jet Ski rentals & parasailing. BigStuf hosts optional rec tournaments including basketball & beach volleyball.

Tournament rules:

Basketball:

  • 3-on-3
  • One team per 30 students in a group
  • Substitutes are allowed
  • Leaders may play on the teams, but you can only have one leader on the court at a time

Volleyball:

  • 6-on-6
  • One team per 30 students
  • Substitutes are allowed
  • Must have at least one girl on the court at all times
  • Leaders may play on the teams, but you can only have one leader on the court at a time

Have your teams formed ahead of time so you can sign-up at check-in, leader orientation or immediately following the first session before small groups. All teams must sign-up for rec tournaments by the end of night one before small groups.

Free Time:

After lunch on day 4 the afternoon is yours to do with your group as you please. There are no rec tournaments this day. You can stay on site during the free afternoon & enjoy the beach or you may go off site with your group. There are several options for activities off property such as arcades, bungee jumping, miniature golf, Pier Park outdoor shopping center, Shipwreck Island Water Park, & Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum. There is an optional dinner that will be served by the Boardwalk Beach Resort on Night 4. If you are interested in this option, please contact julie.dunkin@RAbeachgetaways.com to discuss meal & price options. The Boardwalk Beach Resort will need to know if you are planning on taking advantage of this meal option no later than one month out from the start of your camp.

If you choose to not take the Night 4 meal option, dinner is on your own.  Take a look at our Restaurants page here  for an extensive list of restaurants in close proximity to camp.  You can choose to eat dinner on site as well, but with hotel policies the food cannot be served in common areas. Food has to be kept & eaten in your hotel rooms.

IS THERE A DRESS CODE FOR CAMP?

Yes. The reason for our dress code is so the focus of camp will not be altered. We want to keep camp with as little distractions as possible.

Guys, here are some parameters to follow:

  • Please make sure all attire is modest & appropriate.
  • No speedos or anything that semi resembles a speedo.
  • Unless at the beach or pool, wear a shirt at all times that completely covers the chest & torso.
  • No sagging of shorts, pants or swim trunks.

Girls, here are some parameters to follow:

  • Please make sure all attire is modest & appropriate.
  • One piece bathing suits (no cutouts) or tankini’s that fully cover the stomach.
  • Stomach should be covered at all times.
  • All shirts, dresses, & rompers should have a modest neckline.
  • Shorts & rompers must have at least a 3” inseam.
  • Skirts, dresses, & rompers should keep you fully covered when bending over.

It is of great importance that church leadership properly guides the focus of camp. If students do not follow dress code, BigStuf staff & interns hold the right to ask students to change into appropriate clothing. Leaders will be contacted if necessary.

WHAT DO MY STUDENTS NEED TO BRING?

Students need to bring beach towels, sunscreen, water bottles, flip-flops, bathing suit, shorts, t-shirts, Bibles & journals. Bed linens & bath towels are provided in the hotel rooms. Students may also want to bring extra spending money for snacks, arcade games, & the BigStuf Store which you can check out here.
